St. John’s Episcopal Church is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of our parishioners and those in the Oakland County Community.

At St. John’s Royal Oak, everyone is welcome, everyone belongs!

St. John’s outreach ministries work to improve our community by making a difference in the dignity and quality of life of those they touch.  Examples include our New to You Shop (the proceeds of which go to support charity work in our community); active participation in the Harriet Tubman Center D.R.I.V.E. initiative (a coalition of clergy, congregations and allies, acting and advocating to create a just, equal and equitable community through congregation-based organizing); support for the South Oakland (homeless) Shelter, our beekeeping ministry, and the Woodward and 11 Concert Series.  Our many other ministries support adult and children Christian education, pastoral care and the upkeep of our facilities.

Open Hands food pantry is the largest in Oakland County.  Founded in 1982 Open Hands provides emergency food, fresh vegetables and toiletries to our clients. The goal is to provide a week’s worth of supplies to those who are in need of emergency food.  In 2015, the pantry served over 13,500 individuals, including 261 new client households and 32 homeless individuals living in Oakland County.   Open Hands is ‘neighbors helping neighbors’ in a welcoming space where everyone is welcome and met with the utmost dignity and respect.  The food pantry is staffed entirely by volunteers and is supported by donations and grants from local agencies, businesses and individuals.  Open Hands Food Pantry is a 501(c)(3) organization and works in partnership with Gleaners Food Bank of Southwestern Michigan.

The success of these programs takes the time, talent and treasure of our members and the community at large.  We ask that you consider supporting our good work through a one-time or recurring monetary donation or by volunteering in support of one or more of our various ministries. You can also choose to leave a lasting legacy by naming St. John’s in your estate plans.  Finally, if you wish to honor a loved one or recognize a special event or milestone, we offer memorial gift opportunities.
