Where kindness and compassion change lives

St. John’s has a long history of outreach programs.  All of our ministries are led by lay people. The common thread in them is that they connect us in unique and meaningful ways to the needs or our community. Our present outreach ministries include the following:

The Open Hands Food Pantry is the largest food pantry in Oakland County serving over 13,000 people annually. Volunteers provide groceries, toiletries and other household items to Oakland Country residents on Saturday mornings and Monday afternoons.

The New to You Resale Shop - located inside St. Johns' Church, the shop offers gently used goods at reasonable prices including clothes, housewares, jewelry, books, CDs, dishes, etc. The net proceeds of the resale shop are allocated to various local and national charities.  Volunteers are need to sort, merchandise, and sell products. Donations are accepted anytime the church is open, and consignments by appointment. The New To You Shop is open Monday through Saturday at various times (see website).

D.R.I.V.E. (Detroit Regional Interfaith Voice for Equality) In the fall, St. John's DRIVE team hosted an interesting information session about the Boys & Girls Club. We learned about the great work they do with youth in our communities on academic support, healthy living, and leadership.  The Boys & Girls Club has an ongoing need for volunteers. They need academic mentors, career exploration, transportation, and corporate partnerships. If you would like to support their incredible mission in any of these ways, please visit their volunteer sign-up page to enter your information here, and they will reach out to discuss. For more information, Nicole Stewart  This email address is being protected from spambots.
