Read the Book - Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult  Hailed as Jodi Picoult's most important novel, "Small Great Things" tells the story of Ruth Jefferson, a labor and delivery room nurse at a Connecticut hospital with twenty years’ experience. After a routine checkup on a newborn baby Ruth is told that she can no longer care for this baby. The parents are white supremacists who don't want Ruth, an African American, to touch their baby. She obeys, but when the baby stops breathing, Ruth is the only person in the room, and she is charged with the baby's death. With empathy, intelligence and candor this book tackles race, privilege, justice, and compassion. Join us as we discuss the book and the issues it confronts. Copies of the book will be available at St. John's for $15.
